1.Particulars of Organization, functions and duties:

 

The Delhi Public Library(DPL) came into existence in 1951 as a pilot project under the then Ministry of Education with technical assistance from UNESCO as a Pilot Project to introduce the concept of free public library information services to people of Delhi. It was a concept of for eradication of illiteracy as well.

In this regard Delhi Library Board was constituted and registered under Societies Registration Act, 21 of 1860. The headquarter of the society shall be at Delhi/ New Delhi. DPL is fully under the administrative control of Ministry of Culture and 100% funded by Govt of India.

 

Objectives of DPL:

 

The object is to provide for the people of Delhi State a public library service and community center for popular education which may serve as a model for all public library development in India and offer its advisory services to neighboring countries if they wish to avail them. The Library shall serve the needs of popular education without distinction of class, creed, occupation or race and cater specially to those of neo-literates and children.
